Carfin Grotto, situated in the Parish of St Francis Xavier in the village of Carfin, near Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, is Scotland's National Shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes. Opened in 1922 by Monsignor Thomas Canon Taylor, the Grotto welcomes over 70,000 pilgrims each year from across the globe.

The "Carfin Grotto", as the shrine is locally referred to, was the brainchild of Father, later Canon Thomas N. Taylor (died 1963), parish priest of St. Francis Xavier 's Parish in the small, mining village of Carfin, which lies two miles east of Motherwell, in the West of Scotland.

However, Carfin Grotto's parish priest at the time saw an opportunit­y and set about raising the £12,000 needed to bring it to Carfin. A statue was recently added of Carlo Acutis, a devout English-born Italian Catholic who documented Eucharisti­c miracles since the beginning of the church and catalogued them on a website before his death.
