A sixth Iroquois-speaker nation, the Tuscarora, eventually joined the Haudenosaunee. The confederation was founded by three legendary figures: Deganawida the prophet and Great Peacemaker, Hiawatha the warrior turned convert, and Jigonsaseh the matriarch. The confederacy may have been founded between 1100 AD and 1450 AD.
