Certainly the number of foil assisted catamarans on the market - at least the faster ones - are on the rise, probably because they are simple, robust and reliable and offer significant benefits for reasonable cost. And that is really the key, particularly when most of the world's power boat pleasure boating happens in mono-hulls.

The foil assist involves integrated foils at midships that lift the majority of the hulls out of the water, similar to a planning vessel, but with significantly less fuel consumption and more stability. The decreased drag then allows much higher speeds relative to power output. Foiling boats are, of course, nothing new.
