De Basiliek van de H. Nicolaas ( Sint-Nicolaaskerk) is een rooms-katholieke kerk in de binnenstad van Amsterdam. De kerk, officieel de H. Nicolaas binnen de Veste geheten, is gebouwd in de periode 1884 -1887 naar een ontwerp van de architect Adrianus Bleijs (1842-1912).

Gebouw. De Basiliek van de H. Nicolaas, genoemd naar de patroonheilige van Amsterdam, ligt als een prachtig boegbeeld van de stad tegenover het Centraal Station. Door zijn koepel, omvang en locatie is het een kerk die door velen gezien en gekend wordt. In 2001 werd een grootschalige restauratie van de kerk voltooid.

Catholic Church Built between 1884 and 1887, the St. Nicolaaskerk is the most well-known of the 'new' Amsterdam churches. It is a tall and spacious building, standing at a spectacular position diagonally opposite the Central Railway Station in the Old Centre district of Amsterdam.

The Oude Kerk, in the middle of the historic city centre, is a place for contemporary art and Amsterdam's oldest building. Over the centuries, the church grew from a small wooden chapel (circa 1250) to an extensive hall church (circa 1570). Today, the building is considered an important (inter)national monument.
