Not only is the Helmut Pfeifhofer Porsche Automuseum the only privately owned Porsche-sanctioned museum in the world, it's actually in the same town that the very first Porsches were made in, the fabled production run of 52 early "Gmünd" 356s. I went to get the story of this special place, and it held more than just a few pieces of aluminum inside.

Jul 2019 • Family. Gmünd was the manufacturing site for Porsche from 1944 to 1950, and the Porsche 356 was first produced here. The museum shows some 15 models, and gives some insight into the 'early' sports cars years of the brand. If you have the Kärnten card, the entry is even for free. Worth a visit!

When you are travelling to Gmünd to see the museum, you want to see the former location of the Porsche company. It is outside of Gmünd and you need to ask for the directions at the museum.
