The Shellback Ceremony is a time-honored tradition that is steeped in symbolism and pageantry. During the ceremony, sailors are initiated into the exclusive "Order of the Shellbacks", and are given a certificate and a special patch to mark their achievement. In addition, they are also awarded a special coin, known as a "Shellback Coin".
