Built in 1961, Nara Dreamland was supposed to be the disney theme park of the country, which is easy to guess when you take a look on the fairy pink princess castle ! It was a huge success and many japanese went there during their free time for many years.

You can see the influences in the large Matterhorn mountain, the fairytale castle, the monorail and the main street. It's not nearly as big as the park in Anaheim but the Japanese tried to replicate the same feel. Not that you can tell these days, of course.

I've just spent a year in Nara (2015-2016), a kilometre from the park, and it was after I went back to Tokyo recently that the destruction began.
